House Spider

House Spider

The most common spider found in homes is the house spider. This spider is yellowish-brown in color with several dark stripes meeting at angles. Female house spiders are larger than the males and lay about 250 eggs in a silken sac. Often there is more than one sac at a time on the web. Eggs will hatch in about 7-10 days and can live for up to a year. During the lifespan of a female house spider, she can produce more than 3,760 eggs.

When looking for food the house spider will create a tangled web. If that web does not produce any food, they will abandon it and move to a new location. You will typically find webs where there is an air current bringing in flying insects.

House spiders typically do not bite humans. It has been found that they will bite if they feel threatened or when being crushed. These bites typically do not need medical attention.
