Black Widow
Spiders are one of the most creepy insects that causes people a lot of anxiety. There are thousands of species but one, in particular, has its own persona. The black widow! This spider is jet black in color with two reddish triangular markings forming an hourglass shape on the underside of the abdomen.
Female black widow spiders are larger than the males. There is a popular belief that the female eats the male after mating. This however is rare. Another misconception about black widow spiders is that you will die if it bites you. Fatalities are very rare even though the venom is reported to be 15 times stronger than a rattlesnake’s and can cause muscle aches, nausea, and make breathing difficult.
The webs that these spiders spin are very irregular. One would describe it as “messy.” The female will spin a silken sac within the web that will hold the eggs.
